NY trails split millions in grants
Comments 0 | Recommend 0ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- More than 30 trail-related projects across New York state will split $3.3 million in grants from a federal government program.
State parks officials say the money will go to groups that maintain and improve 32 trails used for hiking, biking, jogging, cross-country skiing or horseback riding.
The trails pass through public and private lands and are developed and maintained by state and local municipalities as well as volunteer groups.
The funding announced earlier this week includes several hundred-thousand dollars for snowmobile trails in central and western New York, and $200,000 for the Walkway Over the Hudson project, slated to open this fall.
Another $150,000 will go toward opening a section of the original section of the Appalachian Trial at Bear Mountain in the Hudson Valley.
