NY AG Cuomo demands top execs' bonus and pay raise info from AIG

A day after he urged top executives at Citigroup to forgo bonuses this year amidst massive worker layoffs, New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo is asking American International Group to reveal how much its executives will receive in bonuses and pay raises this year.

AIG, which was the recipient of a $150 billion taxpayer-funded rescue package earlier this year, is one of several companies Cuomo is urging to withhold bonuses.

"It seems hard to imagine that AIG could pay significant bonuses or give raises to its executives after the company has quite literally been bailed out by the American taxpayer," AG Cuomo said in a letter to Edward Liddy, the chair and CEO of AIG. "We believe top executives should shoulder their fair share of these difficult economic times."

Cuomo cited Goldman Sachs, UBS and Barclays as examples of companies that made the decision not to give out bonuses.

"As you know, I believe AIG's decision has significant legal ramifications," Cuomo concluded in his letter.
