Comments 0 | Recommend 0"She didnt have a chance to live her life. Somebody took it and I wanna know who they are."
Those words from Kim Perham Wednesday on the fourth anniversary of her daughter's murder. Fourteen year old Gretchen Perham of Albany was found dead on a South End Albany embankment on May 13th 2005. She disappeared and was killed as she left that morning for classes at the Hackett Middle School.
On this anniversary Gretchen's family gathered at her gravesite at Calvary Cemetery in Glenmont placing flowers and saying prayers of of their pain and their hope.
So far Gretchen's murder remains unsolved and her family struggles with frustration anger and despair wondering why police cannot put together enough evidence to charge the main suspect.
On Wednesday a Police Department spokesman confirmed that the case is still active..that they continue to follow leads, but the main suspect for the killing is still convicted rapist Darius Ashley.
Ashley is now serving 25 years in prison for another crime..and Detectives continue to say they have not been able to sustain enough evidence against Ashley to charge him with Gretchen's murder.
At the gravesite Gretchen's brother said if it takes fifty years her family will continue to push for the arrest of the killer and to provide justice for Gretchen Perham.
