An expansion of New York's Child Health Plus insurance plan takes effect on Monday.
Under the new rules, all uninsured children will be eligible for moderate or no-cost health care coverage.
The state increased the income eligibility from 250 to 400 percent of the federal poverty level.
That means a child in a family of three whose income is no greater than $70,000 is eligible for coverage at no cost, or at a reduced premium of nine to 40 dollars per child per month.
In addition, a family making more than 400 percent of the federal poverty level can buy into the program at the full average monthly premium of $156.
