VT worker run over by street sweeper, survives

BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Police in Vermont say a street sweeper backed over a construction worker, leaving only his boots sticking out from under the vehicle. He escaped with only minor injuries.

Burlington, Vt., police Lt. Art Cyr says the sweeper's brushes weren't spinning when the man was run over Monday evening.

Firefighters jacked up the vehicle to remove him.

Police say the victim, whose name was not released, and the sweeper driver are employed by the same contractor, which was paving city streets.

The driver apparently didn't see the worker and backed over him.

Cyr says that when he arrived around 7 p.m. Monday all he could see were the victim's boots sticking out.
