Amsterdam Station Gives Gifts to Gas Buyers

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

It's not everyday you hear of someone giving away stuff for free; Especially not a gas station owner, all to put a smile on your face. But Teresa Priolo found one special lady named Jane Slezak.

Customers at Jane's CITGO on Church Street in Amsterdam are filling up, with smiles on their faces. In fact, they are going so far as to call Slezak the Mother Teresa of gas pumps, partly because she's so generous.

Slezak says she's no Mother Teresa, she "just feels badly that people are hurting with the higher costs."

When you fill up at her CITGO, not only are you getting the best deal in Amsterdam, she gives you a special treat to take with you.

This memorial day she will be giving away flowers. But she also gives away candy, food, pins, and anything else that she can find.

Which begs the question, Why?

Slezak says it is her way of saying thank you to all her loyal customers.

And customers like Tim Dohurty seem to appreciate the gesture, telling CBS 6, " It's a really nice personal touch . . .nice way to bring customers back."

Paul Morrill adds, "She's always been that way, and the gas has always been cheaper than other places."

We wondered, instead of giving away free stuff, why can't she just lower the price at the pump? Slezak says, with as little as the gas station owner makes off of a sale, that's just not possible.

However, she is petitioning lawmakers, and boycotting the use of ethanol, saying it does not give you the customer the most bang for your buck.
