Colonie Police have made two arrests in a rash of burglaries that were concentrated in the Village. Between May 27th, 2009 and June 10th, 2009 Police say items have been stolen from both locked and unlocked vehicles as well as houses, when residents were sleeping. The majority of the larcenies occurred on the side streets between Central Avenue and Sand Creek Road.
As a result of the investigation Craig Becker, 24 of Colonie and David Sousa, 33 of Troy were arrested and charged with Burglary, Grand Larceny and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property. Police say more arrests are pending. According to police the thefts, were committed by multiple suspects acting independently. A significant portion of the stolen merchandise has been recovered, however some merchandise was destroyed or resold prior to the arrests. Police say both defendants were on parole for similar criminal convictions. The investigation was aided by the Albany County Sheriff's Department and NYS Parole. Both Becker and Sousa are at the Albany County Jail.
Police add, that while these arrests represent the closure of numerous cases, residents should be mindful to lock their vehicles, lock windows and doors of their residences, leave an outside light on and immediately report suspicious activity.
