Fourth of July events planned across NY
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- Several state and national historic sites across New York are hosting events and activities on the Fourth of July.
At the Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site on the eastern end of Lake Ontario, cannon firings will begin Saturday afternoon at the Navy Yard. Re-enactors will be on hand as part of the site's War of 1812 living history camp.
At Fort Ticonderoga, the pipes and drums of the Atlantic Watch Scottish Band will highlight July 4th activities.
Musical performances are on tap Saturday afternoon at Washington's Headquarters State Historic Site in Newburgh. At the Stony Point Battlefield State Historic Site on the Hudson River in neighboring Rockland County, musician Linda Russell will sing 18th century ballads next to a campfire.
And at the Saratoga Battlefield, a citizenship ceremony, fife and drum performances, musket firings and readings of the Declaration of Independence are part of the day-long festivities.
