Two arrested in attempted robbery at clothing shop
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Albany Police say they've arrested two men in connection with an attempted robbery at a clothing shop on Quail St. Monday morning.
Two men armed with handguns walked into Uptown Clothing Shop Monday and approached the clerk to rob him, but the clerk fought back, according to Det. James Miller.
During the struggle, the clerk was pushed into a glass display case and cut his hand, Det. Miller said. Shots were subsequently fired inside the store, apparently striking one suspect in the hand before both suspects fled the store.
A patrol unit was flagged down on Central Ave., and officers chased one of the suspects on foot when he was spotted on the street. That suspect was caught at Quail and West; the second was caught at Washington Ave. and Cortland St. shortly afterward.
The suspects were identified as Dwayen Cherry, 24 of Schenectady, and Azelle Ricks, 19 of Albany. Both were taken into custody; Ricks is at Albany Medical Center being treated for his gunshot wound and the Cherry is being interviewed at the Criminal Investigation.
The victim was treated at the scene for injuries.
Cherry is charged with 1st degree attempted robbery and 2nd degree criminal possession of a weapon. Ricks is charged with attempted robbery in the 1st and 2nd degree.
Detectives are continuing to investigate.
