Slingerlands man arrested for driving drunk, assaulting sheriff's deputy
A 21-year-old Slingerlands man was arrested on DWI and assault charges early Friday morning after police allegedly found him drunk at the scene of an accident, the Albany County Sheriff's Office said.
The Sheriff's Office says it received a call at approximately 1:30 for persistent sounding of a car horn at Fort Grove Road in Slingerlands, and responding deputies found a severely damaged red 2009 Mini Cooper at the scene.
Gregory Sanderson emerged from the car as deputies approached, and was uncooperative, the Sheriff's Office said.
Deputies detected a strong odor of alcohol of Sanderson, and placed him into custody for transportation to the Sheriff's patrol station.
While being processed, Sanderson "became agitated" and struck a deputy sheriff, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Sanderson was charged with felony second-degree asssault, aggravated DWI for having a blood alcohol content over .18, misdemeanor obstruction of governmental administration and misdemeanor fourth-degree criminal mischief.
Sanderson was arraigned in Town of New Scotland Court and remanded to the Albany County Correctional Facility with $5,000 bail.
