Troy bar owner sued for copyright infringement
The owner of Daisy Baker's is being sued by recording industry officials for allegedly allowing live performances of copyrighted material in the bar-restaurant.
Jim Scully and Green Street Entertainment Corp. are named in the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Albany on Tuesday. The lawsuit accuses Scully of six counts of copyright infringement and seeks damages ranging from $750 to $30,000 per count. If Scully is found guilty, the maximum fine could amount to almost $200,000.
The six songs, which are copyrighted by artists like Prince and Stevie Ray Vaughn, were played in the establishment by bands in Feb. 2007 and Dec. 2008. The Syracuse attorney representing the musicians wrote in the filed complaint that the incident has caused "great injury to the plaintiffs" and they "will suffer irreparable harm" if they are infringed upon again.
Daisy Baker's is located at 33 Second Street in Downtown Troy.
