Sen. Schumer seeks prosecutor vs. ex-Justice official
Comments 0 | Recommend 0New York Sen. Charles Schumer wants the Justice Department to enlist a new prosecutor to investigate whether a former Justice Department official lied to him in sworn testimony.
An internal inquiry found Bradley Schlozman, who once led the agency's civil rights division, wrongly considered political pedigrees when making personnel decisions, and misled Congress when asked about it by Schumer at a hearing in 2007.
The Democratic senator calls it "confounding" that a prosecutor reviewed the case and chose not to press charges.
Schumer is asking outgoing Attorney General Michael Mukasey to refer the case to Nora Dannehy, a federal prosecutor in Connecticut already probing the firing of nine federal prosecutors.
