Tech Valley High Starts Recruitment
Comments 0 | Recommend 0While most teachers and administrators are just getting back in the swing of things after the holidays, one school is already preparing for next year. Tech Valley High School located in East Greenbush, is getting ready to hold the first of several information sessions in its effort to recruit 40 new students for the 2010- 2011 school year. Nate Hileman of Rotterdam, a sophomore at the school said he was sick of boring lectures and wanted more hands on learning. In his Bio-technology class he's getting that. "I am researching sorta sponge-like concrete and it's about how the EPA is trying to figure out how to solve sorta run-off problems and it could clean up parking lots and create clean water." says, Nate. Jenna Rodriguez, a sophomore from Schodack also thinks Tech Vally High is more challenging. "Regular high schools kind of teach you the basic things and our school goes detailed and gives you a good outline and we don't really miss anything."
Officials at Tech Valley High are hoping more students like Nate and Jenna will enroll for the 2010-2011 school year-- that's why a vigorous recruitment campaign is about to get underway. Principal, Dan Liebert says, "We are innovating in a number ways and creating a culture of learning. I'm proud that we are becoming more and more of a model as a school for Tech Valley." Although technology is the focus, Liebert says the school offers something for every student, looking to make the move after 8th grade. "We tie what were teaching to how it's being used in the real world."
Starting on January 12, 2010, Tech Valley High will hold a series of eight information sessions. They will be held at various schools across the capital region.
