RCS school district names new superintendent

Nearly a year after the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk school board voted to end superintendent Vicki Wright's contract with the RCS school district, a new superintendent has been named to replace Wright.

The board of education appointed Daniel Teplesky as the new district superintendent at its March 23rd meeting. Teplesky's term will begin at the end of July, according to interim superintendent Dr. Michael Johnson.

Teplesky is currently superintendent of Granville Central School District, where he's worked since 2004, listing accomplishments like helping improve student achievement scores, installing electronic smart boards in every classroom, and helping the district win a $50,000 grant for math and technology in cooperation with the College of St. Rose.

Prior to his work at Granville, Teplesky served as a junior high school principal in the Churchville-Chili Central School District from 2002-2004; as an assistant principal in the Royalton-Hartland Central School District from 2000-2002; and as an associate principal in the Niagara Catholic Junior Senior High School from 1999-2000.

Before that, he worked as CEO of River Valley Farms Company, a poultry processor in upstate New York. He holds an M.S. in education from Niagara University and a bachelor's degree in music education from the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point.

The board also named Lyn Derway as a new business official in the district. Derway will begin July 1st, coming from the Lake George Central School District, where she has served as school business administrator since 2005.
