Schenectady Man Convicted in April 2007 Slaying
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The trial lasted three weeks, but jurors took just three hours to convict a Schenectady man of second-degree murder and weapon possession charges.
Twenty-six-year-old Omari Lee faces up to 25 years in prison for gunning down Xavier McDaniel Jr., a former local high school basketball star, last year.
Prosecutors argued that Lee's arrogance drove him to kill McDaniel, believing he could get away with the crime.
Lee's defense attorney countered that Lee was never seen on surveillance footage while the prosecution's key witness was seen getting into McDaniel's car moments before the slaying.
The surveillance cameras are in a park near the scene of the killing in April 2007.
Lee shot the 21-year-old while he was sitting in his car.
Prosecutors have said Lee believed McDaniel had stolen his drugs, gun and cash.
