Updated: 10:54 p.m.

A fire at 97 Calhoun Drive in Schaghticoke around 6 p.m. Friday night destroyed one home and melted the siding on another. Investigators were still looking into the cause.

Melrose Fire Chief Dom Pasinella says two rooms in front were fully involved when firefighters arrived. He says it took about twelve minutes to knock down.

One woman said a TV exploded but Pasinella could not confirm that except to say there were two explosions of unknown origin.

An elderly woman Chief Pasinella knows as "Mrs. Martin" told CBS 6 News she was in the house at the time with her grandson and two other people. She was talkative as she described how an addition had been built. When asked whether she had any idea what caused the fire, she stopped talking and had nothing more to say.

For more than thirty minutes, adults and children in various combinations were in and out of an investigations van being interviewed.

One couple who lives down the road lost their home to fire five years ago and rebuilt. They are now offering help to these victims.
