Tree falls on car, causes fatal crash in Saratoga County

MALTA -- A freak accident in the Saratoga County town of Malta Wednesday night left one person dead and another in serious condition.

State Police said C. A. Dalessandro, 57, of Saratoga Springs, was behind the wheel driving along Route 9P when a tree fell onto the car.

The car ran off the road into a guiderail, then crossed the road hitting another guiderail.  

The crash happened just after 8 p.m., police said.

Dalessandro was flown to Albany Medical Center and last listed in serious condition.

Passenger Carol Salvatore, 73, also of Saratoga Springs, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation.
