Military re-enactors set up camp for events at Saratoga County sites
History buffs can get their fill of military encampments this weekend in eastern New York.
Re-enactors are setting up camps at three locations -- Fort Edward, Saratoga Springs and the Saratoga Battlefield in Stillwater.
In Fort Edward on the upper Hudson River, French and Indian War re-enactors will have an encampment at the Rogers Island Visitors Center. The two-day event is part of the state's commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the war that the precursor to the American Revolution.
A few miles to the south of Fort Edward, the Saratoga National Historical Park is commemorating the 231st anniversary of the Battles of Saratoga. Re-enactors will set up military camps and guided tours of the battlefield will be offered.
And in Saratoga Springs, the focus will be on the Civil War. Re-enactors will encamp in the city's downtown Congress Park and offer visitors a glimpse of military life 135 years ago.
