Fort Edward company could face safety violation fines
FORT EDWARD, N.Y. (AP) -- An upstate recycling company faces possible fines for failing to correct hazards cited during an earlier federal safety inspection.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration says Kara Fibers Incorporated of Fort Edward was cited in September for machine guarding violations and other hazards. A follow-up inspection found those hazards uncorrected.
OSHA inspectors also found other violations of workplace safety standards. The agency is issuing proposed fines of more than $60,000.
Kara Fibers has 15 days to correct or contest the violations or request an informal conference with OSHA officials. Calls to the company Monday were not returned.
