A passerby spotted the body in the river, in the South End of Troy near Bruno Machinery.
Police say the body was badly decomposed, but there is still some clothing and jewelry which helped them make a positive identification.
The Rensselaer County Medical Examiner has confirmed the identity of the deceased male discovered in Troy Saturday afternoon as Shelton; aka "Shawn", Grant of New York City.
