Car repair scam suspects in court
ALBANY -- A mother and her son appeared in Albany County Court Friday morning, arraigned on a fourteen count indictment in connection with what police describe as a car repair scam. Kevin Gervasio, 29, was arraigned on 14 counts including grand larceny, the most serious of the charges. Gervasio's mother, Rosalyn Abbott, was arraigned on three charges.
Gervasio, his mother, and his aunt Tara Showen were all arrested in connection with a suspected car repair scam that police say targeted senior citizens between Bethlehem and Colonie. Showen was in court today but she is not facing charges.
Investigators say the scheme's perpetrators poured oil or coffee behind cars and then warned their drivers of an oil leak. Police say Gervasio posed as a mechanic and that drivers were later charged for costly repairs that were never made.
Police say 7 people have now come forward claiming they are victims of the scam. Gervasio is free on $30,00 bail.
