Five displaced after fire damages Rensselaer home

RENSSELAER – Five city residents are being assisted by the Red Cross after a fire severely damaged their home on Second Street.
An off-duty firefighter was across the street when the fire broke out in the 3 p.m. hour, and was able to quickly respond and assist on the scene, according to Rensselaer Fire Chief Phil Foust.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
