Exit 6 ramps back open for Monday rush
The ramps at Northway Exit 6 opened Sunday evening hours before the Monday morning rush, a spokesperson for the New York State Department of Transportation confirmed.
Peter Van Keuren told CBS6 reporter Ashe Reardon that work over the weekend was completed ahead of schedule, allowing for the early reopening.
The north and south exit ramps had been closed since 10 p.m. Saturday night, part of a multi-million dollar project to reconstruct the Northway bridge over the next seven months.
The exit ramps will be closed three more times for short periods before the project is completed this fall, said Van Keuren.
Though traffic across the bridge will be limited to four lanes of traffic from seven throughout the project.
Transportation officials are urging drivers to be aware of increased congestion and to take alternate routes if possible. The Transportation Department has listed alternate routes on its website.
To ease congestion, the agency's website has ten cameras that provide real-time pictures of traffic in the area.
