Cohoes pool damage undetermined
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Mayor says worst case could close it for the summer
Cohoes Mayor John McDonald says if city workers find the liner in the Lansing Park pool is severely damaged it could mean no swimming there for the rest of the season. His hope is that the pool needs only to be drained and cleaned so that it can be open sometime after Independence Day. He says depending on how badly the liner was damaged - if at all - it may have caused damage that could cost between $50,000 and $100,000 to repair. The pool is one area socked by a heavy rainstorm Wednesday.
The mayor says it's too difficult at this point to estimate the amount of damage done to private property.
"Public property - too early to tell," McDonald said. He pointed out more rain is expected.
"A lof of roads have really felt the pain in the area." syas McDonald. "There are some parts of the city where the roads are totally crumpled up, other areas are fine. It's hit and miss."
The mayor said disaster-related emergency funding is not expected at the moment.
"Right now we're not finding any for the city. As much as it's been a big impact on the city of Cohoes I don't think it rose to the threshold yet but you never know, if keeps raining. It needs to be declared by the county and we're not at that stage yet."
The mayor said he'll know better on Monday whether any emergency funding for private citizens might be available.
