Police: Scotia woman accused man of kidnapping to damage his credibility in trial
SCOTIA -- A 20-year-old Scotia woman is facing several charges for allegedly accusing a Pittsfield man of robbing and kidnapping her, part of a plan to damage his credibility before he takes the stand in a trial against a Hell's Angels gang member, State Police say.
According to State Police, Nicole Brooks reported to police on August 14 she had been parked alongside the road in Wells, N.Y., when a man approached and accosted her, robbed her of $800 and forced her into his vehicle.
Brooks also said the man fired shots at her while she was fleeing into the nearby woods.
During the investigation, Brooks identified David Glasser of Pittsfield, Mass., as her attacker, but police determined parts of her allegation were not credible.
Police then discovered Glasser was going to be a key government witness in a trial against a member of the Hell's Angels motorcycle gang, and that "Brooks had conspired with others to damage Glasser's credibility as well as put him in jail during this time period," according to State Police.
Brooks was arrested August 27 on charges of misdemeanor filing a false written instrument, misdemeanor making a false written statement and felony falsifying business records.
She was arraigned in Wells Town Court and remanded to Hamilton County Jail on $50,000 bail.
