Rensselaer man arrested for attacking wife

A 45-year-old Rensselaer man was arrested early this morning after he attacked his wife and fled before being caught by police.

Aung Soe Myint, of 704 East St., is charged with felony assault and felony criminal contempt.

Rensselaer Police responded to a 911 call at 704 East St. at around 4:39 a.m. and found a 43-year-old woman in her bedroom with serious injuries to her face and head, apparently caused by a blunt object.

Mo's 16-year-old daughter told police her father had struck her mother, police said. Myint had fled the scene before police arrived.

After a brief manhunt, Rensselaer police officers found Myint hiding in a garage in the city and arrested him. He was arraigned in Rensselaer City Court and remanded to the Rensselaer County Jail.

The victim is being treated for her injuries and is said to be in stable condition, police said.
