Attempted Traffic Stop on I-90 Leads to Car and Foot Chase
Comments 0 | Recommend 0A 21-year-old Albany man was arrested in Colonie Tuesday after speeding on Interstate-90 and through several major streets in an attempt to evade police, said state Trooper Maureen Tuffey, a spokesperson for the New York state police.
Theodore Bickley was arrested for reckless endangerment in the second degree, fleeing from police, speeding, resisting arrest and other vehicle and traffic charges.
According to Tuffey, a Loudonville state trooper attempted to pull over a 1998 Lexus for speeding at 86 m.p.h. in a 55 m.p.h. zone on the I-90 in Albany at around 11:18 a.m. Tuesday.
Bickley, the driver of the Lexus, refused to stop and instead accelerated his car, said Tuffey. He exited off the Fuller Road ramp, continuing to evade the police.
A short distance away, at the intersection of Railroad Avenue and Northway Mall Road, Bickley lost control of his car, striking a barrier on the right shoulder.
In total, the vehicle pursuit lasted for about two minutes, covering as many miles, and was monitored by a supervisor, said Turffey.
The passenger in the Lexus stayed in the car and didn't resist police, Tuffey said.
Bickley, however, continued to flee on foot, running through a wooded area behind Inga's Diner and escaping to the Stewart's store nearby before being apprehended by Colonie police approximately 15 minutes later.
