Obama shows concern, anger over Christmas plane incident
HONOLULU -- President Barack Obama says what happened Christmas Day aboard a plane flying into Detroit is "totally unacceptable." He wants a preliminary report by New Year's Eve on how a would-be bomber got aboard a U.S.-bound plane while carrying explosives. Obama says it's "a systemic failure" when the government has information on a known extremist, and that information is not shared and acted upon as it should have been. During a brief statement in Hawaii, where he's vacationing, the president said it's "essential" to diagnose the problems quickly. But he also took note of what went right, including the passengers and flight crew who subdued the man, and government officials who worked quickly to increase security.
