Bruno Wishes Paterson 'Good Health and a Happy Birthday'
Hours after Governor David Paterson's office announced Paterson had checked himself into a hospital following a severe migraine, Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno issued a statement saying he believed the Governor would recover quickly.
"I know David to be in great physical shape, and am impressed by his stamina and ability, and expect that he will soon return to his desk," said Bruno.
"I know that Governor Paterson would rather not spend his birthday in the hospital, and I join all New Yorkers in wishing the Governor good health and a happy birthday," Bruno went on in his statement.
Governor Paterson turns 54 today.
While the lieutenant governor position remained vacated after Paterson stepped into the gubernatorial job, Bruno would effectively become acting governor should Paterson become incapacitated in any way, according to the state constitutional charter.
Paterson and Bruno have had a warm working relationship dating back to Paterson's tenure as state Senate Minority Leader. Their often chummy interaction contrasted sharply with the frosty relationship between Bruno and former governor Eliot Spitzer.
