PLANS FOR A SCHENECTADY PARK TO BE FUN AGAIN
Instead of drawing children, neighbors say Jerry Burrell Park in Schenectady draws crime. Littered with graffitti, broken equipment and broken glass a group called A.C.O.R.N. (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) is calling for change. Many say Drug Dealing, Killing and just Bad Business goes on at the park. Katuray Korona a member of ACORN says if changes are made then the unwanted traffic will leave and Families and Children will return.
Cbs Six called Councilman Joseph Allen who says major changes have been ordered to be done by July 7th. New Playground Equipment and Lights will be installed. Fencing has been made a priority along with drinking fountains and restroom facilities must be working and open. They'll also begin thinking about rearranging the park to make it safer for children. Down the road the city will look at leveling part of the land and even adding a Soccer Field.
