VP candidate on anti-tax sentiment in AK, NH
Comments 0 | Recommend 0DOVER, N.H. (AP) -- Sarah Palin is making her first trip to New Hampshire, and says she feels a kinship with the state based on a shared love of fishing, moose-hunting and low taxes.
At the first of three rallies, the Alaska governor said New Hampshire's state motto, "Live Free or Die," would also suit her state.
Alaska and New Hampshire are the only two states with neither a general income tax nor a general sales tax -- and Palin played up that connection in repeating her argument that Barack Obama would raise taxes.
About 1,000 people turned out for Palin's first rally at Dover High School. More than 5,000 are expected at an evening rally in Salem. After the Dover speech, Palin went talked with the crowd of people outside who couldn't get into the rally.
With a microphone with one hand and her youngest son with the other, she addressed someone who seemed to be heckling her. She said, "Sir, I don't know what you're saying, but if you're protesting, that's cool, too."
