3-yr-old killed in ATV accident
A three-year-old girl was killed yesterday when her eight-year-old brother crashed an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) accident into a tree.
Columbia County Sheriffs reported today that the girl was thrown off the vehicle and pinned underneath it as it rolled. Her father and his friend, who were nearby when the accident occurred, called emergency services for help.
The girl, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead at Columbia Memorial Hospital. In addition, her brother received treatment for facial injuries. Their ten-year-old sister, who was also a passenger on the ATV, was not injured.
Rescue squads responded shortly before 7 P.M. Saturday to 100 Herrington Drive in the Town of Austerlitz, where the girl's father was housesitting. The family is from the Copake-Hillsdale area.
The incident is still under investigation.
