Suspended Schenectady police officer arrested again

Schenectady police have arrested a suspended officer of their department.

They tell us Officer John Lewis was arrested on Saturday night, after he was involved in an accident in the parking lot of Ellis Hospital.

Police were called to the hospital at six on Saturday night, after a report of a man who had left the emergency room, tried to drive away, and hit another vehicle in the parking lot. Police determined that the man involved was Officer Lewis, and he was arrested.

Lewis has been charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Driving While Intoxicated, and Leaving the scene of a property damage accident.   He is now in the Schenectady County Jail without bail. 

Officer Lewis is currently on unpaid suspension, and is facing termination from the Police Department. The termination hearing for Officer Lewis has been completed and the department is awaiting the decision of the arbitrator.
