D.A. pushes purple for month of October
Domestic violence awareness "important cause"
Saratoga County District Attorney James Murphy is encouraging people to participate in October's Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
"As New York calls upon us to “Shine the Light on Domestic Violence,” this year’s theme, buildings, statues and bridges throughout the state will be illuminated in purple, the color of courage, survival, and honor that has come to provide hope to those who suffer from domestic violence in our communities."
Murphy says his office works closely with local groups such as the Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Services of Saratoga County, and the Mechanicville Domestic Violence Advocacy Program, groups that offer services for children, counseling and support.
"Anyone can 'go purple' in support of this important cause by wearing purple ribbons, or by the simple act of shining a purple light," Murphy says. "I urge you to join me to raise awareness about the prevalence and harm of domestic violence in our community."
