The Issue of Malpractice
Three Lobbies Voice Their Side of the Argument
The Medical Society of New York was one of two medical groups lobbying in Albany today over the issue of malpractice.
The Medical Society is calling for malpractice insurance reform. The meeting was held this morning at 9 a.m.
Later on a rally to garner support for obstetricians and gynecologists was held at the State Capitol.
Doctors and health care professionals from all over New York gathered to voice their concerns over increasing medical liability premiums which are putting many OB/GYN's out of business.
According to a press release put out by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Cortland, Essex, Hamilton, Lewis, Schoharie, Seneca, and Tioga counties are all currently without practicing obstetricians.
The rally was scheduled to begin at 12:30 at the Capitol.
Meanwhile, several groups including NYPIRG and CURE-NY will join survivors of medical negligence at a news conference at the Legislative Office Building in Albany. The news conference will be held at 2 p.m. on the issue of malpractice.
According to a CURE-NY press release, the advocates will react "to medical lobby's calls for reducing patient rights" as well as ask for a greater oversight of doctors.
