Downstate Thruway ramp improves access to Stewart airport
NEWBURGH -- Travelers heading to the Hudson Valley's Stewart International Airport via the Thruway will have an easier time reaching their destination.
The state Thruway Authority is opening a new ramp off Interstate 87 to Interstate 84 at Newburgh on Monday morning. The airport is located just off I-84 in neighboring New Windsor.
Previously, motorists traveling on the Thruway had to get off at Exit 17 and use local roads to get to I-84.
Drivers began using some of the new ramps in July, but the final stages of the $140 million project were recently completed.
Stewart Airport is about 60 miles north of New York City. It's run by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which also operates the LaGuardia, Kennedy and Newark airports.
