Recall Kiosks at Target
(Albany) - New York State wants to take a closer look at a new program being rolled out at area Target stores.
Target, along with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced that it will install a recall notification system throughout its stores.
Signs will be posted throughout the stores leading shoppers to informational kiosks. Those kiosks will allow shoppers to check if a product has been recalled.
Shoppers can print out a list of new or recent recalls and carry it with them.
However, The New York State Consumer Protection Board says they are in support of any program that will help educate consumers but they want to review the new system to ensure it meets state requirements.
Consumer Reports also thinks the move is a step in the right direction but thinks that alerting shoppers to recalls might be more affective if the information appeared on video screens at the checkout counters rather than at a kiosk in the customer service department.
The kiosks should be up and running today.
