NY father charged with murder in killing of girl
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- A 50-year-old man has been indicted on charges that he shot and killed his 9-year-old daughter and her baby sitter.
Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore said Darrell Evans of Mount Vernon was arraigned Thursday on counts of first- and second-degree murder and weapon charges.
Evans pleaded not guilty. A call to his lawyer was not immediately returned.
DiFiore said Evans threatened to kill his daughter Ayanna Evans during a Jan. 7 phone call with the girl's mother, who was at work.
The couple had lived together for many years.
The mother called police. As they reached the house, DiFiore said, Evans came out and surrendered. Inside were the bodies of the girl and the 42-year-old baby sitter, Lorna Williams. Both had been shot to death.
