Survey: The most annoying words/phrases in conversation
What word or phrase makes you wince the most when you hear it mid-conversation?
A new Marist poll asked Americans what bothered them the most.

“Whatever” topped the list with 47 percent of those polled saying it annoyed them the most.
A quarter of Americans polled said the phrase “you know” made their skin crawl.
The phrase “it is what it is” upsets 11 percent, 7 percent would ban “anyway” from conversations and another 2 percent said they would ax the phrase “at the end of the day.”
In the Northeast, 35 percent of residents said “whatever” is most annoying, while 32 percent are most bothered by “you know.”
The results differed by geographic region, but were nearly the same for men and women and by age group.
