Crow-dispersal methods to be tested in Albany this week
ALBANY -- Scientists will be conducting a pilot project in the city to test out crow dispersal methods in the city beginning Monday afternoon and concluding this Friday.
The non-lethal pilot project will take place from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. each evening this week through Friday., and will be conducted in the area surrounding Hackett Blvd., Academy Rd., New Scotland Ave., and Holland Ave.
Non-lethal harassment methods used to disperse the crows will include pyrotechnics, electronic guards, non-harmful lasers and amplified recorded crow distress calls.
Several of these methods produce loud noises and flashing lights similar to sirens or fireworks, the city says. They are designed to frighten the birds.
Biologists conducting the tests will be wearing uniforms with a bright orange vest marked "USDA Wildlife Services."
Resident who have questions or comments can contact Wildlife Services at 518-477-4837 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. or after hours at 518-391-0072.
