Critics of gun buy back called 'ludicrous.'
"It's ludicrous."
That was the reaction Tuesday from Pastor Charlie Muller of Albany to criticism of the $10,000 grant from the Albany County Legislature for Muller's gun buyback program.
Tom King, president of the 45,000 member New York State Rifle and Pistol Association, says the grant is a waste of taxpayer dollars because it's going to a program that King says does not impact crime.
King also said the guns being turned in are old and inoperable and would be better used as "paperweights."
An angry Pastor Charlie said the Association doesn't know what its talking about since he does not take in guns that don't work. Muller also pointed to recent crime stats which showed gunshots fired in Albany were down 50 percent.
Albany County Legislator Gary Domalowicz tells CBS 6 News that the $10,000 is "money well spent" and that the County will continue to fund Pastor Charlie's program.
