Environmental group sues to block Albany landfill expansion

ALBANY -- An environmental group is suing to block the city of Albany from expanding its landfill into the Pine Bush, a rare pine barrens area.
"Save the Pine Bush" filed the suit last week in state Supreme Court against the state Department of Environmental Conservation, which this year approved the city's plan to expand the dump for a fourth time into the Pine Bush.
Lynne Jackson, a volunteer with the environmental group, said the landfill causes multiple destructive impacts on rare habitat and species.
