NY helper hurt delivering food dies from injuries
An Albany woman who was run over by her own car while delivering food for the Meals on Wheels program has died.
Officials at Albany Medical Center Hospital say 80-year-old Kathleen King died Tuesday, a day after she was critically injured in the accident at an apartment building in suburban Guilderland.
Police say she had gotten out of her car after parking and it began to roll backward. Officers say King tried to stop the car but was knocked down and her head was pinned under one of the tires.
Emergency responders and onlookers lifted the car off King.
King was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, a program that delivers meals to shut-ins, including the elderly.
