Lisa Kaczmarek Free on Bail

The wife of former Schenectady police chief Greg Kaczmarek in out on bail Friday afternoon after a court apperance in Schenectady County Court to face charges in connection with a major drug ring bust.

 

Lisa Kaczmaek, 48, was among the 19 people in court Friday morning and plead not guilty to a conspiracy charge.

 

CBS 6 News reporter Mary Beth Wenger was at court Friday morning where Greg Kaczmarek told reporters that he loved his wife. 

 

"She has my full support and we are going to get through this," he said.

 

Greg Kaczmarek was named in court documents as meeting with his wife and another alleged drug dealer to discuss how to continue the operation after an apparent drug raid. 

 

The indictment also revealed that his wife told another dealer that he was willing to "mule" drugs and would "flash his badge" if necessary.  Mary Beth asked the former chief if he ever used his badge and he said, "Absolutely not."

 

Kaczmarek was sent back to the Schenectady County jail on $10,000 cash bail or a $20,000 bond and was released on bail Friday afternoon.

48 year old Lisa Kaczmarek covered her face as she entered a Schenectady County courtroom to face drus sale and possession charges.  She was one of 18 people arraigned Friday morning after being arrested in a major drug bust led by the Attorney General’s office.

 

 

There were almost as many eyes on former Schenectady Police Chief Gregory Kaczmarek, her husband who sat stoically in the back of the courtroom, as there were on Lisa Kaczmarek.  When she entered the courtroom she looked over at her husband and when she tu

 

rned back it was clear she was tearing up.

 

 

The indictment says Lisa Kaczmarek offered up her husband as a “mule” or delivery person for drugs and that she said he would flash

 

his police badge if trouble arose.  It also says Gregory Kaczmarek was present at a meeting with Lisa and another alleged drug dealer, as they talked about the future of the operation after a police raid.  No charges were filed against Gregory Kaczmarek.

 

 

But after court the former Chief, who famously started his time in office with a press conference to deny he used drugs, now answered similar questions about his wife.

 

“I love my wife and fully support my wife, “ Kaczmarek told CBS 6 News.  We asked “Did you ever use your badge to buy drugs? “  “Absolutely not!” responded Kaczmarek .

 

 

He bailed out his wife; bail was set at $10,000 cash, $20,000 bond.   Lisa Kaczmarek could face 8 and 1/3 to 25 years in prison if convicted of the felony charges.
