Soldier David Jones remembered in Montgomery County
ST JOHNSVILLE -- Montgomery County soldier David Jones will be remembered today.
A viewing will be held this afternoon at St. John's Reformed Church from 1 to 3 p.m., then from 5 to 7 p.m.
A funeral will be held tomorrow at St. John's Reformed Church at 11 a.m.
A procession will then take Jones's body to West St. Johnsville Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest.
A procession of police and Patriot Guard riders have escorted the body of David Jones home on Thursday.
Teresa Priolo reports there were hundreds of people who lined the streets awaiting his arrival.
ST. JOHNSVILLE -- The body of 21-year-old soldier David Jones will arrive in Rome, N.Y., Thursday morning, and be transported to his hometown for a funeral Saturday, his family tells CBS 6.
Pvt. Jones died October 24 in Iraq, in what the Department of Defense called a non-combat incident, of which details remained murky.

ST. JOHNSVILLE -- U.S. Army Pvt., David R. Jones, 21, a 2008 graduate of St. Johnsville High School, passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2010 in Iraq.David was born on April 24, 1989 in Ft. Carson,Colorado. Pvt. Jones joined the military in October of 2009 as a cannon crew member and he was assigned to the Howitzer Battery 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment in Fort Hood, Kileen, Texas in March. He deployed to Iraq for his first tour of duty to support Operation New Dawn in August. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal with combat service star, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.
David enjoyed many activities and sports including soccer, running, and making music with his friends. David loved hanging out with family and friends and watching sports with his loved ones. He was very proud of being in the military and to have the opportunity to serve and honor his country. He will be missed by his family members and many friends. David was extremely close with all of the members of his St. Johnsville High School graduating class of 2008. Family came first in David’s life and he leaves his loved ones and friends with countless memories. He was a fun-loving individual and was kind, caring and energetic.
Survivors include his beloved family; his mother: Theresa Ann Bennett of St. Johnsville; his father, George Arthur Bennett, Jr., of St. Johnsville ; his fiance: Britany Winton of Gloversville; his biological father, David Ricahrd Jones; brothers: Timothy Bennett, Nick Bennett, Georgie Bennett III, Chris Bennett, Bernie Bennett and Alexander Jones; his grandmother: Alice Jones, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, George Bennett; maternal grandfather: Henry Jones; paternal grandmother: Arthella Bennett and by his uncles: Garry and Arthur Bennett and Timothy Jones.
Private Jones’ body will arrive at the Griffiss Airforce Base in Rome, NY with an escorted procession to take place back to his hometown of St. Johnsville. The public is asked to be mindful of the vehicles as they pass through towns.
Funeral arrangements are still incomplete at this time but the family will receive relatives and friends at St.John's Reformed Church, St. Johnsville. Private David Richard Jones will be farewelled in a military funeral service at St. John's Reformed Church, West Main Street, St. Johnsville with the Rev. David A. Johnson officiating the day after calling hours. Funeral procession will follow to West St. Johnsville Cemetery where he will be laid to rest. A very special thank you is extended to the many relatives and friends for their outpouring of support during this difficult time. Service are being coordinated by funeral directors, John Lewandowski and Daniel J. Enea.
