Vigil for Colonie native killed in Iraq
Staff Sargeant Amy Seyboth Tirador mourned
Close to two hundred people gathered at the veterans memorial in Colonie Wednesday night to offer support and sympathy to the family of an Army Staff Sargeany who has been working in Iraq an interrogator and translator - a woman whose death, according to her father, was a homicide. Amy Seyboth Tirador's mother, Colleen Murphy, told the crowd she and Tirador's father, Gerard Seyboth, would find out exactly what happened.
"We will, and everyone will know," said Murphy.
The military has said only that Tirador was killed November 4 and that her death was "non-combat related" - a death the military said it was still investigating.
Tirador was a Bronze Star recepient, a 1998 graduate of Colonie Central High School who became a medic before learning to speak Arabic to do work that her father told CBS 6 made her "a high profile target", pointing out she worked in intelligence.
During the vigil, many people held candles as friends and family shared stories about Tirador and her character. The memorial features stones engraved with the names of locals who have died in service to their country. Murphy said her daughter's name would be added.
Her family says Tirador will be buried in Saratoga National Cemetery but the date is not known because the military has not released Tirador's body, which was flown back to Dover Air Force Base last week.
