Knox teen charged with criminally negligent homicide in fatal car crash
State Police have arrested a 19-year-old Berne man on a charge of criminally negligent homicide for his role in a car crash last October that killed a 16-year-old passenger.
Edmund Moore has been charged with felony criminally negligent homicide and misdemeanor third-degree assault in connection with the Oct. 1, 2008 accident in the town of Knox.
According to police, Moore was driving with girlfriend 19-year-old Ashley Overbaugh, also of Berne, and friend 16-year-old Ryan Slingerland of Knox, on Street Rd. that day.
The vehicle left the road and struck an embankment and a tree. The crash killed Slingerland, who was not wearing a seatbelt in the backseat, and severely injured Overbaugh.
Moore didn't admit at the time he was the driver in the accident, but State Police say they determined Moore was indeed the driver after a lengthy investigation.
Police say Moore only had a learner's permit at the time and was driving "in a reckless manner at a high rate of speed."
