British national with history of police assault captured in Albany
Comments 0 | Recommend 0An illegal British immigrant with a history of assaulting police was arrested in Albany Wednesday morning.
Forty-two year old Gary McDonald, who had been wanted by Albany Police for felony third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, was spotted by U.S. Marshals as he was walking down North Pearl St. at 10 a.m.
Task Force officials say McDonald was deported to United Kingdom in 2004 after he was released from state prison after serving time for a felony assault on a uniformed Albany police officer in 1996.
McDonald was a fugitive from the time of that attack up until his capture by U.S. Marshals in Albany in 2002.
Officials say he was apparently able to sneak back into the U.S. sometime between 2004 and early 2008.
Further immigration charges from Immigration and Customs Enforcement are likely in the future, Task Force officials say.
