Rival companies will provide free Wi-Fi at travel hubs
NEW YORK CITY -- They are usually companies who are at each other throats, trying to get the upper hand in the high-tech world. But this holiday season Google, Yahoo, eBay and Microsoft are trying to go for the hearts of travelers -- by providing free Wi-Fi access.
All are providing some level of free Wi-Fi service at airports, airplanes or public places. Google is providing the ability to surf the net in 47 airports around the country through January 15.
eBay says it will provide Wi-Fi for free on some Delta flights during Thanksgiving week.
Microsoft has been giving up Wi-Fi access at some hotels and airports since September. And Yahoo has begun providing Wi-Fi access in New York's Time Square.
