Celebrity chef Bobby Flay to appear at State Fair

New York celebrity chef Bobby Flay will be at the New York State Fair this September, fair organizers announced today.

Flay stars in four Food Network shows and does cooking segments for CBS's "The Early Show." The native New Yorker owns two restaurants in New York City and frequents Saratoga Springs during track season.

Flay will prepare several dishes on the Chevy Court stage at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2nd, followed by a book signing.

"As an agricultural Fair, food has always played a central role in all that we do here," State Fair Director Dan O'Hara said. "Bobby Flay, a native New Yorker, has helped educate millions of people about how to get more enjoyment out of fresh meat, fruits and vegetables; many of which are produced right here in New York State. He is an artist and a showman and we are very excited to have him this summer."

Flay, an Emmy Award winner, is currently the star of the Food Network's "Boy Meets Grill," "Throwdown! With Bobby Flay," and "Grill It! With Bobby Flay." He is also a mainstay of "Iron Chef," one of the most popular food shows in television history.

A member of the first graduating class of New York's prestigious French Culinary Institute, Flay now owns restaurants across the country. In New York, they include Mesa Grill, Bar Americain, and Bobby's BurgerPalace. He is a New York Times bestselling cookbook author and recently released a new book, "Burgers, Fries and Shakes."

At Chevy Court, Flay will join a lineup of national stars that includes Shinedown, Sara Evans, Grand Funk Railroad, Darius Rucker, The Four Tops, MC Hammer, Boyz II Men, the Oakridge Boys, Sha Na Na and Drake Bell. The 2009 Fair will run from Aug. 27 to Sept. 7.
